Activity 6 Case Study
Purpose: Deepen self-understanding and understanding of case histories by writing a personal case history.
Objectives: Write a case history for yourself.
Materials:
Text book case history – p. 46-48
Student preparation:
Procedure:
- Read case history – p. 46-48
- Ask students to write their own case history.
- Answer questions based on Anna Freud’s case history
- Self-description – What is your mood, appearance and manner?
- What is you family background and personal history (life story and family constellation).
- Self – awareness about motivations and character limitations, self-control.
- Signs of internal conflict between motivations, super-ego or strivings. (We will explore these areas in greater depth later.
- Assessment of general characteristics
i. How well do you tolerate frustration?
ii. How well are you able to re-direct socially unacceptable impulses to more socially valued goals?
iii. What is your attitude toward anxiety?
iv. Do you usually try to act maturely during stressful situations or do you sometimes react immaturely?
- Please continue your self-case study throughout the semester by adding to the case study as you learn more about yourself.
- Use these questions to help with the case study of your chosen person.
